10.01.2024

Hampidjan has appointed Ólöf Snæhólm Baldursdóttir as the company’s new communications and marketing manager. One of 63 applicants for the post, Ólöf has already made a start in her new role.

She previously spent six years as communications and marketing specialist at Reykjavik Energy, including handling public relations for its subsidiary, Veitur Utilities. Before that she was the marketing and communications manager for Icelandic search and rescue association ICE-SAR for ten years. Ólöf qualified in media studies from the University of Ohio and studied towards a master’s degree in public administration at the University of Iceland.

‘Hampidjan is an energetic international company which is at this moment at a crossroads due the scope of its activity and its listing on the Nasdaq Iceland stock market. This calls for a greater emphasis on communication with shareholders, customers and other interested parties. I’m looking forward to taking on the challenges that come with joining this enterprising group of colleagues,’ she said.

The Hampidjan Group has a varied portfolio of activity. The company has grown from its early days in 1934 and is now the world’s largest manufacturer of fishing gear with 51 subsidiary companies within the group as a whole. There are 76 business locations across 21 countries and a workforce of roughly 2000, stretching from the furthest extremity of Alaska in the West to New Zealand in the East. Production of netting and ropes has always been the core business of the company, which has become a market leader due to its revolutionary products and systems for the fishing and offshore sectors. Hampidjan was listed on the Nasdaq Iceland stock market in June 2023.

‘Bringing Ólöf on board is a coup for Hampidjan, as she comes to this role with a depth of experience, expertise and knowledge that will serve us well in the future. Ólöf is going to play a key part in the demanding challenges ahead of us in the digital sphere, in addition to disseminating information and shaping Hampidjan’s marketing strategies both in Iceland and abroad,’ said Hampidjan CEO Hjörtur Erlendsson.
